Playing with a large compass, I became frustrated at the static sense of each image. Haphazardly, I began adding texture to the single circle and soon found it more appealing. The more texture I added the more it reflected the sense of an expansive moment -- instances of time that suggest larger expanses eliciting an awe that suggests awakening. While the composition is simple, the complexity of the multiple colors and layers emerge as the narrative.

I have several favorite pens that I like to use in sketchbooks. Working with these, I dashed out "portrait of women." Dressed in a cat suit with a yellow bow, she seems both at home and infinitely aware, transparent yet masked, vulnerable but centered, simple but elegant, aware but resolute, and wild but controlled. I prefer viewers read my images for their own narratives, but to me the terrain behind her seems to be her direction.
I used a fountain pen and worked in color using water color paint and ink pens.
